Optionalwhipped cream or chocolate sauce for dipping
Instructions
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, 1 tablespoon of sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
In a separate bowl, beat the egg and then whisk in the milk and vanilla extract until smooth and fully blended.
Gradually pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined. Aim for a thick yet pourable batter.
In a deep frying pan or a fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Ensure there is enough oil to completely submerge the funnel cake fries.
Pour the batter into a squeeze bottle or a piping bag, cutting a small opening if using a piping bag for easier control.
Once the oil is at the proper temperature, carefully squeeze or pipe the batter into the hot oil in a crisscross pattern, creating long strips. Fry in batches to avoid overcrowding, allowing each fry to cook evenly.
Fry the dough for approximately 3-4 minutes or until they turn a beautiful golden brown, flipping halfway through to achieve even cooking on both sides.
Using a slotted spoon, carefully remove the fried cake fries from the oil and transfer them to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any excess oil.
In a shallow bowl, combine the ½ cup of sugar with the ground cinnamon. While the fries are still warm, roll them in the cinnamon-sugar mixture, ensuring each fry is evenly coated.
Serve the funnel cake fries immediately, optionally accompanied by whipped cream or chocolate sauce for dipping.
Notes
Arrange the funnel cake fries in a decorative cone or a tall glass for a playful display.
