In a large mixing bowl, measure out 9 cups of rice cereal and set it aside.
In a microwave-safe bowl, combine 1 cup of white chocolate chips, ½ cup of creamy peanut butter, and ¼ cup of unsalted butter. Heat in the microwave for 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval, until melted and smooth.
Stir in 1 teaspoon of peppermint extract into the melted mixture.
Pour the melted white chocolate mixture over the reserved rice cereal and gently fold until coated.
In a large resealable plastic bag, place 1 cup of powdered sugar and the coated rice cereal. Seal the bag and shake gently to coat.
Open the bag and sprinkle in ½ cup of crushed peppermint candies. Seal and shake to distribute.
Spread the coated muddy buddies onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and allow to cool for about 30 minutes.
Once set, sprinkle additional crushed peppermint over the top.
