Ingredients

4 cups all-purpose flour

2 teaspoons salt

1 teaspoon sugar

2 teaspoons instant dry yeast

1 ½ cups warm water (approximately 110°F)

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 tablespoon dried oregano

1 tablespoon dried thyme

1 tablespoon garlic powder

1 tablespoon rosemary, finely chopped (fresh or dried)

Cornmeal (for dusting)

Instructions

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, sugar, instant dry yeast, dried oregano, dried thyme, garlic powder, and chopped rosemary. Ensure that all the dry ingredients are well-combined to promote even flavor throughout the bread.

Create a well in the center of the flour mixture. Pour in the warm water and add the olive oil. Gradually mix the ingredients with a wooden spoon until a shaggy dough starts to form.

Once the mixture has come together into a dough, transfer it to a lightly floured surface. Knead the dough for about 10 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic. If the dough feels too sticky, sprinkle a little more flour as needed, but be careful not to add too much.

Shape the kneaded dough into a ball and place it in a greased bowl. Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and let the dough rise in a warm area for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until it has doubled in size.

After the dough has risen, gently punch it down to release the air. Shape the dough into your desired form, either a round ball or an oblong loaf.

Place the shaped dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper dusted with cornmeal. Lightly cover it with the damp cloth again and allow it to rise for another 30-45 minutes.

Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C). Once the second rise is complete, carefully make a few shallow slashes on the surface of the dough with a sharp knife. This helps the bread expand while baking.

For an extra crusty exterior, you may place a small oven-safe dish filled with water in the oven while it preheats. This will create steam during baking.

Bake the bread in the preheated oven for approximately 25-30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the bottom sounds hollow when tapped.

Once baked, remove the bread from the oven and allow it to cool on a wire rack before slicing. This will enhance the texture of the bread.

                        - Presentation Tips: Serve the bread warm alongside a dish of herbed olive oil for dipping. For a rustic presentation, slice the bread and arrange it neatly on a wooden board garnished with sprigs of fresh herbs to complement the savory flavors.
